Anonymous Group Donates $2,500,000 to YMCA in Honor
of Local American Hero
September 26, 2002
A national group, who requests anonymity, made a
$2.5 million commitment in honor of war hero Colonel Logan Weston
to the Rock Hill Area YMCAs Vision for Growth
Capital Campaign. The funds will help build a full facility YMCA
in Baxter Village, Fort Mill, SC. Colonel Logan Weston, U.S. Army
(Retired), is considered one of the most heavily decorated soldiers
in American history. He resides in Fort Mill.
Frank Moe Bell, CEO of the Rock Hill Area YMCA, said, We are
honored to offer Colonel Weston a significant naming opportunity
for the new YMCA facility to be located in Baxter Village.
After serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, Colonel Weston
worked as the Secretary of the YMCA and Coordinator of Campus Religious
Life at Texas A&M University for 13 years until retiring once
again.
The Vision for Growth Capital Campaign is an ambitious
$19.8 million vision in which the YMCA hopes to secure $7.6 million
from the community. The Rock Hill Area YMCA, an association of 6
branches located in York and Chester counties, is in the Leadership
Solicitation Phase. During this time, the YMCA is securing Leadership
Level Gifts from friends and community leaders.
The Vision for Growth Capital Campaign will provide
the opportunity for the YMCA to purchase two tracts of land and
to build two full Family YMCA facilities: one in Rock Hill and one
in Baxter Village, Fort Mill, SC. The YMCA will make a formal announcement
of the Capital Campaign and community phase in early 2003.
