Village of
Baxter’s Built-in Technology Again Leads The Way As Area’s
First Neighborhood “Hot Spot”
Fort Mill, SC – August 25, 2004 Village
of Baxter residents and visitors alike can now enjoy the many benefits
of wireless Internet connectivity throughout the community. “WiFi”,
or wireless fidelity, allows for unrestricted mobility in accessing
the Baxter Community Network as well as the Internet via a laptop,
PDA or other wireless device from any of the “hot spots”
within the neighborhood.
“This wireless network in Baxter allows residents to get
outside and get online,” explains Kerri Robusto, Sales, Leasing
and Marketing Director for Clear Springs Development Company. “Some
of the neighborhood ‘hot spots’, such as the Town Center,
are available for all wireless users, while other areas require
a password that is given to residents only.” For instance,
visitors can sit in a neighborhood restaurant and log on, but only
residents can use the wireless capabilities on the steps of the
Community Center or at the pool. “WiFi has been a great benefit,”
says Michael Hunt owner/operator of Beef O’Brady’s,
a neighborhood pub located within Baxter. “Customers can come
in for a meal without losing touch with their business. It has really
increased everyone’s mobility.”
Part of a new technology trial conducted by Clear Springs Development
Company and Comporium Communications, WiFi technology creates a
cloud of Internet connectivity accessible to users within a certain
area. WiFi “hot spots” have been popping up around the
country in McDonald’s Restaurants, Marriott Hotels, and Starbucks
Coffee Shops, but few are free. However, this service is currently
being offered in Baxter to users free of charge. WiFi was installed
at Baxter last year.
Illustrating just how advanced this and the many other technology-based
amenities are at Baxter, is the fact that several new neighborhoods
in the area are now touting the installation of fiber-optic cable—a
benefit currently installed in over 550 Baxter homes, and offered
in Baxter for more than five years. “We chose Baxter because
it’s the best of both worlds, with progressive technology
in a traditional neighborhood,” adds Baxter resident Bradley
Rossetti. “WiFi is just one more way that Baxter stays ahead
of other communities.”
Baxter Village is a 1033-acre traditional neighborhood, just 16
miles south of Charlotte that blends the architectural charm and
sense of community of the past with the technology and convenience
of today--all in an environmentally sound manner designed to enhance
the Fort Mill area. Located off I-77 at exit 85, Baxter is now home
to over 550 families, and is planned for over 800 more homesites.
Baxter is also home to an on-site elementary school, Town Center
with shops and restaurants, public library, urgent care center,
and over 500 acres of open areas. A new YMCA is currently under
construction.
