New Home Style Added to Baxter Pattern Book
May 12, 2001

Baxter Village has added a new style to its Pattern Book – Arts & Crafts, a style indigenous to Upstate South Carolina that dates back to the early 1900s.

“The Arts & Crafts style is categorized by broad, open front porches, roofs with deep overhangs and grouped windows,” said Dan Mummey, Residential Project Manager for Clear Springs Development Company.

“It’s a very diverse style that’s considered a subcategory of our existing Colonial Revival style, whose unique features include gracious front porches and eave details,” Mummey said. “Our builders are excited to add this new style to their mix.”

Baxter’s Pattern Book provides architecture guidelines for designing and building homes and other products in Baxter in the Upcountry tradition.

“What is unique about the Arts & Crafts style is that it mixes materials, such as cedar shakes, stone veneers and brick or stone chimneys,” Mummey said. “For siding and trim, you will see deep earth tones, but similar colors can be selected from the Baxter Color Palette.”

The Arts & Crafts style is available to Baxter’s homebuilders – Saussy Burbank, David Weekley Homes, Lillian Floyd Homes and custom builder S.E. Miller Custom Homes.

“Aesthetics are important to us at Baxter,” said Don Killoren, CEO of Clear Springs Development Company, Baxter’s developer. “Our Community Pattern Book ensures architectural integrity, the highest architectural standards and the highest quality products.”

Baxter Village uses timeless home styles designed to showcase South Carolina's heritage. In addition to the new Arts & Crafts style, homes at Baxter are built on Upcountry Classical, Upcountry Victorian and Upcountry Colonial Revival styles.
