Lillian Floyd Homes to Build in the Village of
Baxter
April 26, 2000
Lillian Floyd Homes, the newest builder at the Village of Baxter,
will begin construction later this month in the current phase of
homebuilding at the traditional Fort Mill neighborhood.
Lillian Floyd Homes has a vision for traditional homebuilding
and customer service that will blend well with the Baxter concept,
said Don Killoren, chief executive officer of Clear Springs Development
Company. Along with our other builders, Lillian will offer
Baxter residents a long tradition of quality homebuilding.
In addition to Lillian Floyd Homes, Saussy Burbank, David Weekley
Homes and S.E. Miller Construction are bringing a traditional style
of homebuilding to Baxter.
Lillian Floyd officials expect to break ground later this month
on their model home on Glen Walk. The builders homes in Baxter
will range between 2,500 and 3,400 square feet and will be priced
from the $240s.
In addition, the homes will include front porches, detached garages,
10-foot ceilings on first floors and flexible space. Some homes
will feature master bedrooms downstairs.
Lillian Floyd homes will blend well with Baxters exacting
architectural standards, Killoren said. Their Classical,
Victorian and Colonial Revival homestyles will add to the neighborhoods
rich streetscapes.
Lillian Floyd Homes management team has a rich history in
the Charlotte region. The company, a subsidiary of The Crosland
Group, is named after home building legend John Crosland Jr.s
mother. Crosland will provide wisdom and oversight to the Lillian
Floyd team. Todd Mansfield, chief operating officer of The Crosland
Group; Martin Kerr, Lillian Floyd president; and Mike McLendon,
vice president, will lead operations. Kerrs grandfather and
McLendons father were also early Charlotte homebuilders.
Homebuilding is in our blood, said McLendon. Lillian
Floyd is the realization of years of dreams and ideas. We are strong
believers in creating the types of neighborhoods we remember from
our youth.
McLendon said his company chose to build in Baxter because of the
long-term potential the development will offer residents.
More and more homeowners want to live in a true community,
somewhere reminiscent of where they grew up, he said. Baxter
is that type of community, and because it is backed by the Close
family of Fort Mill, I know it will succeed.
Lillian Floyd Homes expects to build more than 250 homes in the
Charlotte region over the next few years. Part of this commitment
will include homes in the next phase of homebuilding at Baxter.
The 1,000-acre Village of Baxter, located 20 minutes from uptown
Charlotte in the southwest quadrant of S.C. Highway 160 and Interstate
77, is a traditional neighborhood offering single-family homes and
townhouses, as well as commercial sites and more than 400 acres
of open spaces.
Modeled after small towns of the Southeast, Baxters traditional
architecture reflects the style and character of the upcountry South
Carolina region. Features such as front porches and abundant sidewalks
will orient activity to the front of homes, promoting a pedestrian-friendly
community.

The Information Center is located at Baxters main entrance
off Highway 160 and Interstate 77 at Exit 85.
