Habitat For Humanity of York County To Break Ground
on Two Homes On Land Donated by Clear Springs Development Company
of Fort Mill
February 17, 2001
The Valerie Cargile and Charlotte Williams families of Fort Mill
will celebrate the Feb. 16 start of construction of their new Habitat
for Humanity (HFH) homes on land donated by Clear Springs Development
Company.
Ground will be broken on both homes at 4 p.m. Feb. 16 on Joe Louis
Street near downtown Fort Mill.
We are thrilled to be able to help the Cargile and Williams
families become Fort Mill homeowners, said Don Killoren, chief
executive officer of Clear Spring Development. It is always
exciting to watch our local community come together to support its
residents.
The donation of this land for the new homes is in addition to the
land Clear Springs Development Company donated for three other HFH
homes on Joe Louis Street.
The Cargile and Williams families were selected to receive Habitat
homes from more than 80 applications received by York Countys
local Habitat affiliate. Selection criteria was based on need, ability
to pay and willingness to partner in the local Habitat program.
In addition, both families attended Homeowners-In-Progress classes
for eight months, as well as have helped other families build their
home while waiting for their own opportunities.
In addition to the donation of land by Clear Springs Development,
the employees of InterNET Services Corp. raised $20,000 for construction
costs of one home, which was matched by the company with another
$20,000. HFH of York County will manage the construction of both
homes and provide construction costs for the second home.
HFH of York County is one of 2,700 locations in 76 countries worldwide
and has built 18 homes in the county since its inception in 1988.
The local affiliate builds three to four homes per year, with funding
coming from individuals, churches, foundations, corporations, businesses
and other non-governmental organizations.
Habitat for Humanity International is in its 25th year of providing
homes for residents in their own communities. More than 100,000
homes have been built worldwide since the organizations inception,
housing an estimated 500,000 people.
Clear Springs Development Company is building a series of mixed-use
neighborhoods in Fort Mill over the next 20 years, including the
1,000-acre Baxter Village, a traditional neighborhood with single-family
homes and townhomes, as well as more than 400 acres of open space.
