Alan Marshall To Lead Commercial Sales, Leasing
For Clear Springs Development Company
February 14, 2001
Alan A. Marshall, a seasoned retail and residential real estate
executive with nearly 15 years of industry experience, has joined
Clear Springs Development Company of Fort Mill as Director of Commercial
Sales and Leasing.
While Marshall will oversee the marketing, leasing and sales of
all retail and commercial property owned by the Close family in
Fort Mill, his immediate priority is the development of the Village
of Baxter's Town Center.
"Alan's position was created so that there will be one real
estate entity responsible for the management of all Close family
property in the Fort Mill area," said Don Killoren, chief executive
officer of Clear Springs Development.
"This position is important to our business objectives as our
real estate offerings have become both numerous and diverse, especially
with regards to Baxter's Town Center," Killoren said.
Located in the heart of the traditional Baxter Village, Town Center
will include approximately 115,000 square feet of streetside offices
and retail shops with traditional architecture, as well as a mix
of live/work units and townhomes. Town Center also will include
parks, an elementary school and a medical complex.
"Town Center will offer a diverse mix of commercial and retail
space that will benefit not only the residents of Baxter, but Fort
Mill as a whole," Marshall said. "We envision a lively,
pedestrian-friendly center that offers restaurants, cafes, shopping
opportunities and an extended stay hotel.
"Town Center will be a lifestyle oriented development, it won't
be a 'power center' with anchor stores," Marshall said. "It
will be quaint, charming and very much like the vision conjured
up by the words 'small town living.' "
In addition to Baxter and other real estate holdings of Clear Springs
Development, Marshall is charged with ensuring that the Close family's
real estate portfolio is properly managed over the long term.
"The Close family has a long-term vision for their beloved
Fort Mill," Marshall said. "My responsibility is to ensure
that the family's real estate holdings will generate benefits to
our community for the long term."
Marshall joined Clear Springs Development from Grubb & Ellis/Bissell
Patrick of Charlotte, where as Senior Retail Specialist he was responsible
for the majority of retail transactions, leasing and sales. Grubb
& Ellis awarded him the Senior Retail Professional (SRP) designation,
and he also served for two years on the National Retail Council.
Since relocating to Charlotte from Wilmington, N.C., in 1988, Marshall's
career has included property and construction management, as well
as retail leasing and general retail brokerage.
Marshall received his bachelor's degree from St. Andrews Presbyterian
College in Laurinburg, N.C.
The Village of Baxter is one of a series of mixed-use neighborhoods
being developed by Clear Springs Development Company over the next
20 years. The 1,000-acre development includes single-family homes
and townhomes, as well as more than 400 acres of open space. Baxter
also will include an elementary school, medical complex and retail
and commercial development.
