D.R. Horton Homes to Build in the Village of Baxter
November 1, 2002

D.R. Horton Homes, the newest builder at the Village of Baxter, will begin construction later this month in the current phase of homebuilding at the traditional Fort Mill neighborhood.

“D.R. Horton Homes has a vision for traditional homebuilding and customer service that will blend well with the Baxter concept,” said Don Killoren, chief executive officer of Clear Springs Development Company. “Along with our other builders, Horton will offer Baxter residents a long tradition of quality homebuilding.”

In addition to D.R. Horton Homes, Saussy Burbank, David Weekley Homes and S.E. Miller Custom Homes continue to bring a traditional style of homebuilding to Baxter.

Horton officials expect to break ground later this month on their model home on Third Baxter Crossing. The builder’s homes in Baxter will range between 2,500 and 4,000 square feet and will be priced from the $250s to the $400s.

In addition, the homes will include Classical, Colonial and Arts & Craft style elevations, many full brick designs, front porches, some detached garages, 3rd floor walkups, and flexible space. Some homes will feature master bedrooms downstairs.

“D.R. Horton homes will blend well with Baxter’s exacting architectural standards,” Killoren said. “Their Classical, Victorian and Colonial Revival homestyles will add to the neighborhood’s rich streetscapes.”

D.R. Horton is a national homebuilder presently active in 44 markets in twenty-eight states throughout the United States and is recognized as the fourth largest homebuilder in the Nation. They are a publicly held corporation listed on the New York Stock Exchange with 2001 revenues of over 4.5 billion.

D.R. Horton entered this market in 1989 offering Charlotte homebuyers quality custom homes at affordable prices. Because of concern for quality and a unique ability to customize, D.R. Horton has grown to become a leading local homebuilder.

Jack Ogden, D.R. Horton’s Charlotte division president was drawn to Baxter because of similarities in building philosophy, “We strive to find communities that compliment our product and are dedicated to high quality and excellent customer service. Jack is also very pleased with all that Baxter has to offer D.R. Horton homeowners, “good schools, excellent location, low taxes, wonderful amenities – features like this help ensure our customer satisfaction.”

Located off Interstate 77 at Exit 85, the Village of Baxter is a mixed-use neighborhood being developed by Clear Springs Development Company.

The 1,500-acre Village of Baxter, located 20 minutes from uptown Charlotte is a traditional neighborhood offering single-family homes and townhouses, as well as commercial sites and more than 400 acres of open spaces.

Baxter will include 1,325 homesites and is home to an on-site elementary school, public library, urgent care facility and will soon include a YMCA branch and retail shops and offices. Over 500 acres of open areas add to the neighborhood’s charm.
