Saussy Burbank Begins First Townhome Project In
the Village of Baxter
October 7, 1999
Saussy Burbank, one of the largest homebuilding companies in Charlotte,
has begun construction on the company's first townhome project,
which is located in the Village of Baxter in Fort Mill, S.C.
"We are excited to introduce our first townhome project in
Baxter," said Jim Burbank, CEO of Saussy Burbank. "Given
the success of this project thus far, we anticipate introducing
townhomes in future Saussy communities."
Townhomes at Baxter range from the $115s to the $220s. Saussy Burbank
will build 25 units at the new residential community being developed
on property owned by the Close family.
"We have had a tremendous response from potential homeowners
to the townhomes available in Baxter," said James Traynor,
president of Clear Springs Development Company. "In fact, we
sold 10 units even before construction began."
Most of the townhomes overlook either Baxter Square, a -acre
village green that serves as a focal point for the community, or
Allison Park, a 12-acre park which includes a bandstand, fountain,
playground area and a walking trail that connects to a network of
trails weaving through Baxter. The remaining townhomes are near
the community center or located throughout the village.
"There are a number of excellent townhome sites available in
Baxter," Traynor said. "In addition to being located near
parks and the community center, the townhomes are within walking
distance of a planned retail/office complex."
Saussy Burbank will build two-bedroom townhomes with 1,190 square
feet of space and three-bedroom units with 1,344 square feet. All
Saussy townhomes will offer nine-foot ceilings, and some units will
include front porches.
"All of our floor plans are very open and include archways
and separate kitchen, dining and living spaces," Burbank said.
"The townhomes are perfect for smaller households, such as
young professionals.
"In addition, our townhomes are designed with an emphasis on
architectural styling, they fit the price point for many homeowners
and they are located near many community amenities, such as parks
and the neighborhood community center," he said.
Sales have been brisk for both single-family homes and townhomes
at Baxter. More than 50 townhomes and single-family homes have been
sold. The first Baxter homeowners began moving into the traditional
neighborhood in July.

Center is located at Baxter's main entrance off Highway 160 and
Interstate 77 at Exit 85.
The 1,000-acre Village of Baxter, located 20 minutes from uptown
Charlotte in the southwest quadrant of S.C. Highway 160 and Interstate
77, is a traditional neighborhood offering single-family homes and
townhouses, as well as commercial sites and more than 400 acres
of open spaces.
Modeled after small towns of the Southeast, Baxter's traditional
architecture will reflect the style and character of the upcountry
South Carolina region. Features such as front porches and abundant
sidewalks will orient activity to the front of homes, promoting
a pedestrian-friendly community.
