Sales Momentum Accelerating At The Village of Baxter
October 28, 1999

New home sales at the Village of Baxter in Fort Mill are accelerating rapidly this fall, according to two of the lead builders in the new traditional neighborhood.

"Baxter was our top producing neighborhood in Mecklenburg and York counties during the third quarter," said John Schiegg, project manager for the Village of Baxter for David Weekley Homes. "We sold more than six homes each month during the quarter."

Saussy Burbank also reported that Baxter was one of their top neighborhoods, with 21 homes sold during the third quarter, according to Anita MacNeil, executive vice president and general manager.

"Our sales in Baxter are growing rapidly this fall as more homebuyers learn about the unique nature of this community," MacNeil said.

According to Schiegg, new homebuyers are attracted to Baxter because of its amenities and its return to a traditional neighborhood concept.

"Walking trails, parks, community center, front porches, small town feel, community Internet, architectural standards - Baxter really offers a package unlike any other in the area," Schiegg said. "We have found a great deal of pent-up demand for homes in Baxter and this is helping to fuel an overall growth in momentum."

Since new home sales began in April, Baxter has recorded the sale of 55 single family homes and townhomes. The current phase of homebuilding will include 185 units.

"Another attraction for Baxter is the unique home designs that have been introduced in the community," MacNeil said, noting that both Saussy Burbank and David Weekley won design awards during the recent Parade of Homes.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, David Weekley Homes is a privately owned, single-family homebuilder. Since 1976, Weekley has completed more than 26,000 homes in hundreds of communities nationwide, including ones in Charlotte, Raleigh, Charleston and Nashville, making it the 22nd largest homebuilder in the country.

Established in 1991, Saussy Burbank is one of the largest homebuilding companies in Charlotte, building homes ranging from the $120s to the $300s in 13 communities in Mecklenburg, Union and Iredell counties, as well as the Biltmore Park development in Asheville and communities in the Raleigh area.

The 1,000-acre Village of Baxter, located 20 minutes from uptown Charlotte in the southwest quadrant of S.C. Highway 160 and Interstate 77, is a traditional neighborhood offering single-family homes and townhouses, as well as commercial sites and more than 400 acres of open spaces.

Modeled after small towns of the Southeast, Baxter's traditional architecture will reflect the style and character of the upcountry South Carolina region. Features such as front porches and abundant sidewalks will orient activity to the front of homes, promoting a pedestrian-friendly community.
