Village of Baxter Welcomes Three New Additions To The Town Center
Fort Mill, SC - October 17, 2005

September marked the opening of a new dental office, restaurant, and a much-anticipated YMCA in the Village of Baxter. The new YMCA opened with a full schedule on September 6, and local residents are already offering praise for the new facility. "It is just incredible to have this resource right here," said Baxter resident Jessica Lawrence. "It's a state-of-the-art facility that accommodates the health and fitness needs of the entire family."

The brand new facility, said to set the standards for YMCAs across the country, consists of a 15-acre campus that includes six acres of athletic fields. Constructed in just 15 months, the 65,000 square foot building includes a 2,000 square foot aerobics room, a 10,000 square foot gym with 2 basketball courts, a 12,000 square foot fitness room with weights, treadmills and bikes, a separate cycling studio with 25 bikes, a 2,000 square foot child-watch area, a 6-lane indoor pool, 4 steam rooms/saunas, and 2 racquetball courts. An outdoor waterpark with a children's pool, dumping bucket and 4 slides is also included.

September also marked the opening of Smiles By Design Family Dentistry, Dr. BriAnna Schraw's practice at Baxter. While Dr. Schraw's permanent offices are under construction on the second floor of the Springmaid Building, Smiles By Design Family Dentistry is now open to patients in Dr. Thomas Epps' office across from the new Starbuck's in Baxter. Tired of commuting between her old offices in Lancaster and Rock Hill, Dr. Schraw is ready to settle in at one central location in Baxter.

"Practicing in one location will increase my ability to serve my patients," said Dr. Schraw. Smiles By Design Family Dentistry is currently open from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in their temporary location. They will expand their hours when they move to their permanent location.

Baxter residents and the surrounding communities now have another option in fine dining, as well. The Inn at Baxter Restaurant & Tavern opened early this month to rave reviews from diners. Owned by Frederick and Judy Bahr, this 160-seat restaurant in Baxter Town Center features an open kitchen, private dining room, cigar tavern, gazebo, outdoor dining and grilling patio, and an herb garden courtyard. "Every food item here is grown and produced in the United States," said Frederick Bahr, a former adjunct instructor at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte. Diners may select from a variety of dishes, including Maine lobster and Alaskan salmon. The more adventurous may choose Florida alligator, antelope, venison, and more.

In addition to these newest offerings, the Village of Baxter's Town Center now features a wide variety of businesses including retail, restaurant, medical, and corporate, with more signing up each month. Baxter's Market Street is now a thriving area that has become a gathering place for locals seeking great food, shopping, and more.

Baxter Village is a 1033-acre traditional neighborhood located off I-77 at exit 85. Baxter is now home to over 700 residents, and approximately 700 more homesites are under development or planned. Baxter is also home to an on-site elementary school, public library, urgent care center, and over 500 acres of open areas.
